Three-Country Point
Three-Country Point
Aachen / Kelmis / Plombières / Vaals
The heartbeat of the Meuse–Rhine three country European region is the Three-Country Point, because here the borders of the three nations meet: Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. Between 1814 and 1920 it was even referred to as a Four-Country Point, as the northernmost part of the microstate Neutral Moresnet also bordered the countries here.
Today the Three-Country Point has become a symbol of connections between people in the border region and of European integration. The three-country boundary stone and the flags of the neighbouring countries in the background make for a popular photo opportunity, and the border lines on the ground around the stone invite visitors to “visit” all countries at once.
It is not only the meeting of three states that makes the site attract more than 800,000 visitors each year: a few meters away, decorated with the boundary stones of the three country neighbours, lies the highest point of the Netherlands, at 322.5 meters.
Whether fries, Limburg flan or a multi-course meal, the Three-Country Point offers a wide culinary range. The Baudouin Tower and the Wilhelmina Tower provide magnificent views across three countries, and those who prefer comfort can enjoy the scenery from one of the restaurant terraces. For leisure activities there is a maze and a playground. The surrounding area features a network of signposted hiking routes offering exciting cross-border walks through the forested, hilly landscape: the Three-Country Point is both an ideal starting point and a rewarding destination.

Discover the 50-meter-high Baudouin panoramic tower, in the immediate vicinity of the Three-Country Point boundary stone. Enjoy panoramic views from the tower platform over enchanting, boundless landscapes, with vast meadows, forests and small villages. In the background you can see the foothills of the Ardennes and the Eifel. To the north and west, large spoil heaps stand out, remnants of mining activity in the region.
For an unforgettable experience, take the surrounding stairs at your own pace—though this is not recommended for visitors with a fear of heights. The tower is also accessible by an internal elevator.

Vaals, Netherlands
At the highest point in the Netherlands - the Vaalserberg at the Three-Country Point - stands the iconic Wilhelmina Tower. The tower, named after Queen Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands from 1890 to 1948 is easily accessible via stairs or an elevator and rewards visitors with impressive panoramic views over the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany – a unique experience in the heart of the three country European region.
The tower’s history is as fascinating as the view itself. Since the first wooden version in 1905, the tower has been rebuilt several times and even relocated by a full 60 meters. In its current form, reopened in 2011, it presents itself as a modern landmark featuring a spectacular skywalk at a height of 35 meters. The glass floor offers a small adrenaline rush – do you dare to walk across it?
After the experience, the Brasserie WT or the sunny terrace invites visitors to relax. Whether for the view, a walk, or a pleasant break, the Wilhelmina Tower is an absolute must-see.
